Howie Meeker Autographs
Howie Meeker was a Canadian professional ice hockey player, coach, and broadcaster. He was born on November 4, 1923, in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Meeker began playing hockey in the Canadian junior leagues before joining the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL in 1946. During his rookie season, Meeker set a record by becoming the first NHL player to score five goals in a single game.
Throughout his career, Meeker played as a forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs and won four Stanley Cups in 1947, 1948, 1949, and 1951. After his playing career ended in 1954, Meeker turned to coaching and became the head coach of the Maple Leafs from 1956 to 1958. He went on to become the head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks before retiring from coaching in 1960.
Following his coaching career, Meeker went on to become a highly regarded hockey broadcaster, working on Hockey Night in Canada for over 30 years. He was known for his colorful commentary style and his ability to break down the finer points of the game for viewers. In 2010, Meeker was recognized for his contributions to hockey when he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He passed away on November 8, 2020, at the age of 97.
