Igor Larionov is a retired Russian ice hockey player who was known for his precision passing, exceptional skill and remarkable finesse as a center. Born on December 3, 1960, in Voskresensk, RSFSR, Soviet Union, Larionov started playing ice hockey at the age of six. He is regarded as one of the best Soviet players and had an illustrious career that spanned over two decades, playing for several clubs including CSKA Moscow, Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks. Larionov began his professional career in 1978 with HC CSKA Moscow in the Soviet Championship League, where he won three Soviet League titles and a European Cup. He was later drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft and made his debut for the team in the 1989-90 season. Larionov was part of the famous "Russian Five" unit, consisting of himself, Sergei Fedorov, Slava Fetisov, Vyacheslav Kozlov and Viacheslav Fetisov, which helped the Detroit Red Wings win back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 1997 and 1998.

In addition to his club career, Larionov had a remarkable international career, representing the Soviet Union and later Russia in several World Championships, Olympic Games and the Canada Cup. He was part of the legendary Soviet team that won the gold medal in the 1984 Winter Olympics, and went on to win two more Olympic medals. Larionov was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008, and he was also honored with his number 8 jersey retired by the Detroit Red Wings, a testament to his remarkable career and contribution to the sport of hockey.
