J. P. Parise

J.P. Parise was born in Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario, Canada, in December 1941, and went on to become a standout professional hockey player. He started his career with the Ontario Hockey Association Stratford Jr. Nationals, then played for Hull-Ottawa Canadiens and Houston Apollos in the Eastern Professional Hockey League, before debuting in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Boston Bruins in 1965. He also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota North Stars, New York Islanders, and Cleveland Barons until retiring in 1979. More about J. P. Parise

Parise is most famous for his time with the Minnesota North Stars, where he served as team captain and played nine seasons. He is still one of the leading North Stars scorers of all time. He played in two NHL All-Star Games, in 1970 and 1973, and helped the Canadian national team win a bronze medal at the 1972 Winter Olympics. After retiring, Parise worked as a head coach for the North Stars, as well as a Minnesota high school hockey coach and broadcaster.

J.P. Parise passed away in January 2015 at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest players in NHL history. Parise's toughness and fierce competitiveness on the ice, combined with his humility and graciousness off the ice, made him admired and respected by teammates, opponents, and fans alike.
