Jacques Martin Autographs
Jacques Martin was born on October 1, 1952, in St. Pascal, Quebec. Martin was always interested in hockey as a kid, and he played it passionately. His passion for hockey led him to become one of the most successful coaches in the NHL. Martin began his hockey career with the Cornwall Royals junior team, where he played defense. He helped the team win the Memorial Cup in 1972, the same year he was chosen by the Buffalo Sabres in the NHL draft's third round.
Jacques Martin started his coaching career in 1986 when he joined the Guelph Platers. He coached the team for seven seasons before joining the International Hockey League, where he coached for the Indianapolis Ice for two seasons. Martin returned to the NHL with the St. Louis Blues, where he coached for three seasons before moving on to Ottawa in 1995. Martin helped the Senators reach the playoffs in four of his eight seasons with the team. He also led the team to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 2003. Martin continued his successful career as the head coach of multiple NHL teams, including the Florida Panthers and the Montreal Canadiens.
