Jamie Benn was born on July 18, 1989 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He grew up playing hockey with his older brother Jordie and both of them dreamt of playing in the NHL. Benn started his junior career playing for the British Columbia Hockey League with the Victoria Grizzlies. In 2007, he joined the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League and quickly proved himself as a talented forward.
Benn’s professional career began when he was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the 5th round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. After spending some time in the American Hockey League with the Texas Stars, Benn made his debut with the Dallas Stars in 2009. He quickly became a fan favorite with his physical style of play and offensive abilities. In the 2014-2015 season, Benn won the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer and was also awarded the Ted Lindsay Award as the most outstanding player in the league, as voted by the NHLPA.
Throughout his career, Benn has been a key player for the Dallas Stars, serving as the team’s captain since 2013. He has been selected to the NHL All-Star Game four times and has represented his country on the international stage, winning gold with Team Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Benn’s leadership and skill on the ice have solidified his place among the league’s top players and he continues to be a force in the NHL.
