Born on July 24, 1975, in Cloquet, Minnesota, Langenbrunner began his hockey career in his hometown with the Cloquet Lumberjacks, where he played high school ice hockey. Langenbrunner played his first NHL game with the Dallas Stars in 1995 and remained with the team until 2002. During his time with the Stars, he won the Stanley Cup in 1999 and was an instrumental player in the playoff run that led to the championship. In 2002, he was traded to the New Jersey Devils, where he spent the majority of his career. With the Devils, he won another Stanley Cup championship in 2003 and was named captain of the team in 2007. He remained with the Devils until 2011, when he was traded to the St. Louis Blues, where he played his final season before retiring in 2013. Over his 16-year career, Langenbrunner played 1109 NHL games, scoring 243 goals and 420 assists, and amassing 977 penalty minutes.

Off the ice, Langenbrunner was a member of the United States men's hockey team in the Olympics, playing in both the 1998 and 2010 winter games. He was also involved in various charitable organizations and community outreach programs throughout his career, including the New Jersey Devils' Adopt-a-Family program and the St. Louis Blues' Blues for Kids foundation. Langenbrunner's hard work and dedication to the sport of hockey earned him a reputation as a solid and reliable player, a ferocious competitor, and a respected leader on and off the ice.
