Jan Mursak Autographs
Jan Mursak was born on January 20, 1988, in Maribor, Slovenia, and started playing hockey in his early years. In 2004, at the age of 16, Mursak went to North America to pursue a hockey career. He first played in the United States Hockey League (USHL) for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and later, for a season, with the Saginaw Spirit in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before being drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Mursak played in the Detroit organization for the majority of his professional career, except for a brief stint in the KHL. He made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings during the 2010-11 regular season. Mursak recorded a total of 54 NHL games for the Red Wings, amassing just six points. In 2018, Mursak signed a one-year deal with the Frolunda HC in Sweden, where he further developed his playing style and gained more international experience.
Mursak has also represented Slovenia in several international tournaments. He was part of the Slovenian team that made history by qualifying for the 2014 Sochi Olympics, their first appearance in the Olympic tournament. Mursak scored the winning goal for Slovenia over Austria in the qualification playoffs, which secured them a spot in the Olympic Games. His contribution to Slovenian ice hockey makes him one of the country's all-time greats.
