Jason Smith is a retired American professional basketball player. He was born on March 2, 1986, in Greeley, Colorado. He played basketball in high school and was named the Colorado Player of the Year during his senior year. Smith went on to attend Colorado State University, where he played for the Rams from 2004 to 2007. He was a standout player for the team, leading them in scoring and rebounding during the 2006-2007 season, which helped him earn honors such as Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press.
Smith was drafted in the first round, 20th overall, by the Miami Heat in the 2007 NBA draft. He played for a few teams during his NBA career, including the Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Hornets, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, and Memphis Grizzlies. During his time in the league, Smith was known for his ability to knock down three-pointers and his strong mid-range game. He was also a solid defender and a reliable teammate who brought energy and enthusiasm to the court every game.
After 11 seasons in the NBA, Smith announced his retirement in 2019. Despite being a role player for most of his career, he finished with respectable career averages of 6.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks per game. Smith's dedication and love for the game made him a fan favorite throughout his career, and he will always be remembered as a hard-working, high-energy player who gave it his all on the court.
