Jean-Sebastien Giguere was born on May 16, 1977, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He began playing hockey at a young age and quickly showed promising talent. After playing junior hockey, Giguere was selected 13th overall by the Hartford Whalers in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. Giguere's breakout season came in 2002-03 while playing for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. He led his team to the Stanley Cup Finals that year and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs, despite his team's loss to the New Jersey Devils in Game 7. Giguere's outstanding performance in the playoffs included five shutouts, which tied an NHL record. He continued to play for the Mighty Ducks until 2009, where he broke many franchise records, such as most games won, shutouts, and saves in a season. Later, he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanche before retiring in 2014.
