Jim McKenny Autographs
Jim McKenny is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played defense in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 13 seasons. He was born on February 1, 1946, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. McKenny played junior hockey for the Toronto Marlboros and helped them win the Memorial Cup in 1964. He was then drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he played from 1965 to 1978, winning two Stanley Cups in 1967 and 1972.
McKenny's career with the Maple Leafs was notable for his offensive abilities as a defenseman. In his first season with the Leafs, he won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's Rookie of the Year. He was a member of the NHL All-Rookie Team that season and was also named to the NHL First All-Star Team in 1971-72. He played in two NHL All-Star Games in 1972 and 1973. McKenny retired from the NHL after the 1978-79 season, finishing his career with 427 points (99 goals, 328 assists) in 802 career games.
\nAfter his retirement from the NHL, McKenny worked as a broadcaster and analyst for various sports networks in Canada, including TSN and Leafs TV. He also worked as a commentator for the Canadian Hockey League and the Ontario Hockey League until 2016 when he announced his retirement from broadcasting. Jim McKenny is remembered as a solid defenseman with an offensive flair, a great skater and puck mover, and a valuable member of the Toronto Maple Leafs during his career. His contributions to the game of hockey both on and off the ice have earned him a respected place in the lore of the sport.
