Jim Paek Autographs
Jim Paek is a former National Hockey League defenseman who was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1967. He moved to Canada with his family when he was six years old and began playing hockey soon after. Paek's hockey career took him to various leagues in North America and Europe, including the AHL, IHL, NHL, and German ice hockey league.
Paek played a significant role in the Pittsburgh Penguins' back-to-back Stanley Cup championship wins in 1991 and 1992. In his first season with the Penguins, Paek became the first Korean-born hockey player to play in the NHL. He played in a total of 217 NHL games, scoring eight goals and adding 38 assists for a total of 46 points. After his retirement in 2003, Paek became a coach, first working with the Penguins' affiliate team in Wilkes-Barre Scranton and then as an assistant coach with the Korean national team.
Paek's contribution to the sport of hockey has gone beyond his accomplishments on the ice. As the only Korean-born player in the NHL for much of his career, Paek was a trailblazer for Asian hockey players. He has worked to promote hockey in Korea and was instrumental in bringing the sport to the 2018 Winter Olympics held in Pyeongchang. Paek's hockey legacy will always be a testament to his dedication and passion for the sport, as well as his pioneering role in expanding the sport's international reach.
