Jim Rutherford Autographs
Jim Rutherford is a former professional hockey player and current general manager for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Born on February 17, 1949, in Beeton, Ontario, Rutherford began his playing career with the Detroit Red Wings in the 1969-70 season. He also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Los Angeles Kings before retiring in 1983. Rutherford was a successful goaltender, winning the Stanley Cup twice with the Penguins in 1991 and 1992.
After his playing career, Rutherford turned to management, becoming general manager for the Hartford Whalers in 1994. He stayed with the organization when it moved to become the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997 and remained their general manager until 2014. During his tenure, he guided the Hurricanes to their first-ever Stanley Cup championship in 2006. In 2014, Rutherford moved to the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he has served as general manager for the past seven years, winning three Stanley Cups in the process.
Jim Rutherford's hockey career has been marked by impressive accomplishments as both a player and a manager. He was inducted into the Beeton-Wesley United Church Hall of Fame in 2004 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019. Rutherford's contributions to the sport have been recognized not only by his induction into these halls of fame but also by his successful management of multiple NHL teams, evident in the number of championships his teams have won. Rutherford's dedication to hockey has spanned over five decades, and his impact on the sport will not be forgotten.
