Jiri Slegr Autographs
Jiri Slegr is a former Czech professional hockey player who enjoyed a long and accomplished career in the sport. Slegr was born in Jirkov, Czechoslovakia in 1971 and began playing hockey at a young age. He would go on to play for various teams in the Czech Republic before making the jump to North American hockey in the early 1990s.
Slegr was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the second round of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut in the 1992-93 season. He spent four seasons with the Canucks before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1996. It was with the Penguins that Slegr enjoyed his greatest success, winning a Stanley Cup with the team in 1997. He also played for the Boston Bruins, Atlanta Thrashers, and Detroit Red Wings over the course of his NHL career.
In addition to his NHL career, Slegr also represented the Czech Republic in international hockey tournaments. He played in three Winter Olympics, winning a bronze medal in 1998, and also competed in six World Championships, winning a gold medal in 1996 and a bronze medal in 1999. Slegr retired from professional hockey in 2008, but remains well-respected in the hockey community for his skill, passion, and dedication to the sport.
