John Marks Autographs
John Marks was a professional ice hockey player born on December 17, 1950, in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was a solid, two-way center with an impressive 10-year career in the NHL, playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota North Stars, and Buffalo Sabres. Marks started his journey as a young hockey enthusiast and leveraged his hard work and dedication to become one of the top scorers in the 1976 season. He retired from professional hockey in 1981, and later worked as a coach and executive for both minor and major league teams.
Marks' professional career began with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1972. Being a rookie, he played in only 4 games in his first season. However, he eventually became a regular with the team and helped lead the Blackhawks to the quarterfinals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the 1973-74 season. In 1976, he had a breakout season when he recorded a career-high of 27 goals and 41 assists, garnering him the Frank J. Selke Trophy for being the best defensive forward in the league. Marks continued his excellence over the following seasons and in 1979 signed with the Minnesota North Stars, becoming the team's captain during his last two seasons with them.
After his retirement in 1981, Marks became a coach and executive, serving as assistant coach with the North Stars, head coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and director of player development for the San Jose Sharks. He is also the former coach of AHL teams such as the Adirondack Red Wings, New Haven Nighthawks, and Indianapolis Ice. Marks consistently contributed to the sport by sharing his knowledge and experience as a player, and his passion for hockey remains evident in his continued involvement in the sport.
