Josef Vasicek was a Czech professional ice hockey player from Havířov. He was born on September 12, 1980, and began his professional hockey career in his hometown playing for HC Havířov Panthers in the Czech Extraliga. In 1998, he was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes as the 91st overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. Josef made his NHL debut in the 1999-2000 season and became the second Czech player, after Jaromir Jagr, to score a hat-trick in his first season. More about Josef Vasicek

Vasicek played in the NHL for eleven seasons, representing the Carolina Hurricanes, Nashville Predators, and New York Islanders. He was known for his strong physical presence and impressive offensive ability. He played a key role in the Hurricanes' Stanley Cup victory in 2006, scoring three goals and three assists in the playoffs. In 86 playoff games in his NHL career, he had 13 goals and 23 points, showing his skill and leadership.

Tragically, on September 7, 2011, Josef Vasicek passed away in a plane crash in Russia while playing for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Kontinental Hockey League. He was just 30 years old. Josef's impact on the hockey world was felt by many, and his loss was felt deeply by those who knew him.
