Josh Morrissey is a Canadian ice hockey player born on March 28, 1995, in Calgary, Alberta. He is a defenseman who currently plays for the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League (NHL). Morrissey began his hockey career playing minor hockey in Calgary before he moved to Prince Albert to play in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for the Prince Albert Raiders. That's where he truly developed as a player and began to gain recognition as a top prospect in the WHL.
After impressing in his first two seasons of WHL play, Morrissey was drafted 13th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut for the Jets on November 14, 2015, and soon established himself as a vital part of the team's defensive core. Morrissey has recorded impressive stats throughout his NHL career, constantly improving with each passing season. The star defenseman signed a two-year extension with the Jets in September 2021, cementing his position as a strong and influential player on the team.
In addition to his success at the professional level, Morrissey has also played for the Canadian national team in several international competitions. He was a crucial member of the team that won the gold medal at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championships, a tournament in which he scored two goals, two assists, and was named the top defenseman of the tournament.
