In his teenage years, Schultz played for the Westside Warriors in the British Columbia Hockey League. Schultz started his professional career in 2012 when he signed with the Edmonton Oilers. He quickly made a name for himself, setting a record for the most points in a single season by a rookie defenseman in the American Hockey League. His performances earned him a place in the NHL All-Rookie Team. He continued to impress in the NHL, becoming a key player for the Oilers throughout his tenure with them. In 2016, Schultz was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he played a significant role in their 2017 Stanley Cup win.
