Les Binkley Autographs
Les Binkley was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender born on October 6, 1934, in Owen Sound, Ontario. He was one of those many players who started their professional career in the minor leagues and then, after a couple of seasons, made their debut in the NHL. Les played for nine years in the National Hockey League and is best known for his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he spent five seasons.
Binkley spent his early career playing minor league hockey before joining the Chicago Blackhawks in 1962. He spent two seasons as a backup goaltender for the Blackhawks. However, It was not until his trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1967 that Binkley was given the chance to prove his worth as a starting goaltender. During his time with the Penguins, he was known for his quick reflexes and his solid positioning, which made him one of the league's top goalies in the late 1960s.
Over his nine-year NHL career, Les Binkley appeared in 200 games and compiled a record of 78 wins, 89 losses, and 30 ties. His best individual season was in the 1968-69 season when he won 21 games, was named an All-Star, and also won the Lester Patrick Trophy for his outstanding service to hockey in the United States. After his retirement in 1974, Binkley worked as a goaltending coach for several teams, including the Pittsburgh Penguins, and is credited with developing some of the most successful goaltenders in NHL history. His contributions to the sport of hockey have been significant and have helped many young players achieve their dreams.
