Lou Lamoriello is a former professional ice hockey executive and coach, and is considered one of the most successful managing teams in the history of the sport. Born on October 21, 1942, in Johnston, Rhode Island, he had a passion for hockey from a young age, and began playing for the Providence College Friars while studying there. Lamoriello's coaching and management career is marked with incredible success. He served as head coach of the Providence College men's ice hockey team from 1968 to 1973, leading them to numerous winning seasons. He then became the athletic director of the college and held various other positions in the sports department throughout his tenure. In 1987, he took on the role of president and general manager of the New Jersey Devils, where he led the team to an impressive three Stanley Cup championships in just nine seasons. He left the Devils in 2015 to join the Toronto Maple Leafs as general manager, where he helped rebuild the team and bring them to the playoffs in just his third year with the team.

Throughout his career, Lamoriello was known for his strict leadership style and unwavering commitment to team success. He brought a level of discipline and structure to the organizations he worked with, and was respected by players and executives alike. His contributions to the world of hockey have been recognized with numerous awards, including induction into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame and the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
