In the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Staal was selected 12th overall by the New York Rangers, where he played his entire NHL career, making his debut in 2007. He quickly established himself as a defensive stalwart, playing alongside Dan Girardi, his long-time partner. The Rangers made the playoffs in nine of his twelve seasons, advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals three times and the Stanley Cup Finals once, in 2014. He was a valuable player in international competition, representing Canada in the 2008 and 2009 World Junior Championships and a member of Canada's championship team at the 2007 Under-20 World Hockey Championships.

Staal's career was not without challenges, however. In 2013, he suffered a serious eye injury when he was hit by a puck, causing him to miss nearly half the season. But he returned to full strength and played out his tenure with the Rangers, before signing with the Detroit Red Wings in October 2020. Marc Staal is revered worldwide for his excellent defensive play and his impressive career, which is still going strong. Read even more about Marc Staal at Wikipedia
