Mark Streit is a retired Swiss professional ice hockey player born on December 11, 1977, in Bern, Switzerland. He began his hockey career in Switzerland for the SC Bern after being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the ninth round of the 2004 NHL entry draft. After five years in Switzerland and Germany, the highly skilled defenseman made his debut for the Montreal Canadiens in the 2005-2006 season, where he became an integral part of the team's defensive unit. Streit's success with the New York Islanders led to him being named team captain, and he continued to show his leadership skills, recording 62 and 56 points for his final two full seasons with the team. In the 2012-2013 season, he signed with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he again filled the role of team captain. During his stint with the Flyers, he took part in the NHL All-Star game and won a Silver Medal in the IIHF World Championship with team Switzerland. In the 2016-2017 season, Streit was traded back to the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he won a Stanley Cup championship before retiring from professional hockey.
