After graduating from Bemidji State, Read went on to pursue a professional hockey career. He signed with the Philadelphia Flyers in March 2011 and played for the team for seven seasons. During his time with the Flyers, Read played in 437 games and tallied 87 goals and 100 assists.

Read also played international hockey for Team Canada, representing his country in the 2017 Spengler Cup. He has since played for several teams in different leagues, including the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League (NHL), Frolunda HC in Sweden's Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL), and KHL Medveščak Zagreb in the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL). Read's hockey career has been marked by his consistent contributions to all the teams he has played for, earning him recognition and respect in the world of ice hockey.
