Mattias Ohlund Autographs
Mattias Ohlund is a retired Swedish ice hockey player who spent 11 seasons playing in the National Hockey League (NHL) for two different teams. Born on September 9, 1976, in Pitea, Sweden, Ohlund began his hockey career in his home country, playing in the Swedish Elite League for Lulea HF. He was drafted as the 13th overall pick in the 1994 NHL draft by the Vancouver Canucks, where he played from 1997 until 2009, when he was signed by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
During his time in the NHL, Ohlund was regarded as a solid defenseman, well-known for his physicality and toughness on the ice. He played in over 900 games, scoring 93 goals and recording 325 assists, earning him a reputation as one of the best Swedish defensemen to have played in the NHL. Ohlund was also a five-time recipient of the Vancouver Canucks' "best defenseman" award and was selected to represent Sweden in several international competitions, including the Olympic Games, the World Championships, and the Euro Hockey Tour.
Unfortunately, Ohlund's career was cut short due to recurring injuries, and he was forced to retire in 2011. However, his contributions to the NHL have not been forgotten, and in 2019, he was inducted into the Swedish Hockey Hall of Fame. Despite his retirement, Ohlund is still involved in the sport, serving as an assistant coach for the Sweden men's national ice hockey team. His legacy as a talented defenseman continues to inspire young hockey players around the world.
