Mikael Backlund is a professional ice hockey player from Sweden, born on March 17,1989 in Vasteras. He started playing hockey at a young age and joined the Vasteras organization where he played until he was drafted in the first round, 24th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Backlund made his NHL debut on November 6, 2009, as the Calgary Flames played the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Backlund has had a successful career and has become one of the most important players for the Calgary Flames. He has scored numerous goals and has assisted his teammates, always showing great leadership on the ice. In 2013, he signed a two-year contract extension with the Flames and held the record of playing in the most consecutive games for the team, spanning from November 23, 2010, to January 6, 2013.
Outside of the NHL season, Backlund represented Sweden in the international tournaments, winning a silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, and a bronze medal at the 2010 IIHF World Championships. In 2017, Backlund signed a six-year contract extension with the Flames, showing the organization's belief in his talent and future potential. He continues to play at a high level, making significant contributions to the Flames team each season. With his skill, determination and team-oriented approach, he consistently proves to be a dynamic force on the ice.
