Mike Rathje Autographs

Mike Rathje is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman, born on May 11, 1974, in Mannville, a hamlet in Alberta, Canada. Rathje had a successful career in professional hockey and was known for his tough physical play and strong skating. He began his hockey career playing for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he played 144 games and scored 11 goals for 71 points from 1991 to 1994. Rathje's impressive performance earned him the number three overall pick of the San Jose Sharks in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.
Rathje spent his entire NHL career with the San Jose Sharks, signing a four-year $22 million contract in 2004. Rathje was a key player on the Sharks' defensive unit and was known for his physical defense and solid skating. He participated in the NHL All-Star game in 1999 when he was named a defensive alternate. Rathje played in 746 NHL games, scoring 29 goals, 159 assists and accumulating 645 penalty minutes, thus making him one of the most successful defenseman of his time.
Mike Rathje retired from professional hockey in 2007 due to a recurring knee injury, which necessitated five surgeries. Following his retirement, Rathje spent some time working as a coach, helping to develop young players at the Western Hockey League level. Rathje was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 and continues to stay active in the hockey community. He is often seen at various events and games, providing insightful commentary and sharing his experience and expertise with young players. Rathje's contributions to the sport of ice hockey in Canada continue to be recognized and celebrated today.
