Mikko Koskinen Autographs
Mikko Koskinen is a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender playing for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was born on July 18, 1988, in Vantaa, Finland. Koskinen started his hockey career with his hometown team, Vantaan Kiekko, and continued to play for several other Finnish teams, including Blues Espoo, Hartford Wolf Pack, New York Islanders, St. Petersburg SKA, and Jokerit Helsinki. Koskinen joined the Edmonton Oilers during the 2018-2019 season, and since then, he has become the team's starting goaltender.
Koskinen's impressive hockey career in Finland led to his selection in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders. He moved to North America in the 2010-2011 season, playing for the Islanders' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate at the time, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In the 2013-2014 season, Koskinen returned to Europe and played for St. Petersburg SKA in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Koskinen helped the team to win the Gagarin Cup championship in 2015.
Since joining the Edmonton Oilers, Koskinen has made an immediate impact, posting a record of 25-21-4 in his first season with a save percentage of .906. In the 2019-2020 season, he started as the team's backup goaltender but began to get more playing time due to his impressive performance. As the team's starting goaltender, Koskinen posted 18-13-3 records with a save percentage of .917. His impressive performances earned him a three-year contract extension with the Oilers, solidifying his spot as the team's starting goaltender for the foreseeable future.
