Olaf Kolzig Autographs
Olaf Kolzig is a retired German-Canadian ice hockey player, who enjoyed a stellar career as a goaltender in the National Hockey League (NHL) for over 16 seasons. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1970 but grew up in Canada, where he developed a passion for ice hockey. Kolzig started playing hockey at the age of six and was a talented player from an early age.
Kolzig was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft and made his professional debut for the Caps in the 1989-90 season. He spent the majority of his career with the Capitals and was known as a dominant goaltender in the league. He played over 700 NHL games and his career highlights include winning the Vezina Trophy in the 1999-2000 season and leading the Caps to the Stanley Cup Final in 1998.
After retiring from playing in 2009, Kolzig served as a goaltending coach for various teams, including the Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning. In 2015, he returned to the Capitals organization as the assistant general manager, where he continues to work today. Kolzig's contributions to hockey have been recognized with various accolades, including induction into the German Hockey Hall of Fame and the Washington Capitals Ring of Honor in 2017. He is celebrated as one of the greatest goaltenders in the history of the Capitals and a role model for aspiring hockey players in Canada and beyond.
