Tverdovsky played his junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for the Spokane Chiefs and the Regina Pats. He was a standout player in the league, displaying excellent skating ability and offensive prowess. In 1994, he was drafted second overall by the Anaheim Ducks and made his NHL debut the following year. Over the course of his career, Tverdovsky played for several teams, including the Phoenix Coyotes, New Jersey Devils, and Carolina Hurricanes. He won a Stanley Cup with the Devils in 2003 and was named to the NHL All-Star Game in 2001.

Throughout his career, Tverdovsky was known for his smooth skating, strong offensive skills, and ability to control the play from the blue line. He was a reliable defenseman who could also contribute to the offense, recording 72 goals and 258 assists in 713 NHL games. After retiring from professional hockey in 2011, Tverdovsky remained involved in the sport, serving as a coach and trainer for young players.
