Pat Verbeek is a former professional ice hockey player who was born on May 24, 1964, in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Verbeek played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 20 seasons, from 1982 to 2002. He was known for his physicality and ability to score goals. In his early career, Verbeek played for the Sarnia Legionnaires of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and then the Sudbury Wolves of the OHA. In 1987, Verbeek was traded to the Hartford Whalers where he played for six seasons, and had his best years as a pro. During that time, he was named to three NHL All-Star teams, scored 40 or more goals twice, and was a finalist for the Lady Byng Trophy, awarded to the player who combines sportsmanship, gentlemanly conduct, and ability. In 1995, he joined the Detroit Red Wings, where he helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 1997, and then played for the Dallas Stars before ending his career with the Phoenix Coyotes in 2002.

Throughout his career, Verbeek scored 1,063 points in 1,424 NHL games, and tallied more than 500 goals and 1,000 penalty minutes. He was a talented and passionate player, known for his fierce competitiveness and work ethic.
