Paul Holmgren Autographs
Paul Holmgren is a retired American professional ice hockey player and former NHL head coach and general manager. Born in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1955, Holmgren grew up playing hockey and eventually went on to play for the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1975 and began his NHL career with the team the following year. Holmgren became known for his tough style of play as a forward and was a key part of the Flyers’ success in the late 1970s, including their back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances in 1976 and 1977.
After retiring from playing, Holmgren became a coach and executive for the Flyers organization. He served as assistant coach and later head coach, leading the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 1987. He continued to work for the team in various management roles, including as general manager from 2006-2014. During his tenure as GM, the Flyers made the playoffs five times and were Eastern Conference finalists in 2010. Holmgren’s innovative and aggressive approach to building a roster earned him a reputation as one of the most dynamic executives in the NHL.
Holmgren retired from his role as Flyers’ president in 2019 after over four decades with the team. However, his impact on the franchise and the sport of hockey lives on. He helped lay the foundation for the Flyers’ future success and demonstrated what it means to be a true hockey player, both in terms of skill and grit. Holmgren is celebrated not only for his playing and coaching abilities, but for his dedication to the sport and his unwavering commitment to excellence.
