Pavol Demitra Autographs
Pavol Demitra was a Slovak professional ice hockey player who was born on November 29, 1974, in Dubnica, Czechoslovakia. Demitra began his hockey career in 1991 playing for Dukla Trenčín of the Czechoslovak Extraliga. He moved on to play in other leagues, including the International Hockey League, the American Hockey League, and the National Hockey League (NHL). Demitra played in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues, Los Angeles Kings, and the Vancouver Canucks.
Demitra's NHL career spanned from 1996 to 2010. He played a total of 847 games, scoring 304 goals and 464 assists, totaling 768 points. In the 2002-03 season, he had his best year, scoring 36 goals and 57 assists, finishing fifth in the league in scoring. In 2006, he was a member of the Slovak Olympic hockey team, where he was a significant contributor to their success, leading the team in scoring with five goals and five assists in six games.
Besides his NHL career, Demitra also represented his country internationally at the World Championship and the Winter Olympics. He was a member of the Slovakian gold medal team at the World Championships in 2002 and played for his country at the Winter Olympics in 1998, 2002, and 2010. Demitra's life and career ended tragically in 2011, when a plane carrying the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl KHL team crashed, killing him and 43 others on board. He will always be remembered for his immense talent and the joy he brought to the game of hockey.
