Pete Stemkowski Autographs
Pete Stemkowski aka "Stemmer,"born on August 25, 1943 in Winnipeg, Canada, had a remarkable hockey career, that spanned for several years. He began playing hockey at the age of six on the outdoor rinks of Winnipeg, where he gained the nickname "Pistol" for his accurate shot. He quickly showed his talent and passion for the game, which led to him eventually being drafted by the Boston Bruins in 1963. However, his professional career didn't take off until he was traded to the New York Rangers in 1965.
Stemmer would go on to play nine seasons with the Rangers where he became one of their all-time leading scorers, recording 725 games with 105 goals and 267 total points. He was also known for his tenacity on the ice, as he was not afraid to throw his body around to help his team. One of his most memorable moments was during the 1970 Stanley Cup playoffs when he scored the game-winning goal in triple overtime against the Chicago Blackhawks, which became known as the "Stemkowski Game."
After leaving the Rangers, Stemkowski played a season with the Detroit Red Wings before retiring in 1978. He later became a broadcaster and a youth hockey coach in Toronto, where he is still remembered and revered by hockey fans. Stemkowski was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2014 and his legacy continues to inspire future generations of hockey players.
