Phil Housley Autograph
Phil Housley is an American former professional ice hockey player who was born on March 9, 1964, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He grew up in South St. Paul and played hockey at the high school level before getting drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. Housley played for eight different NHL teams over his 21-year career, including the Sabres, Winnipeg Jets, Washington Capitals, Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and finally, the finished his playing career with the Nashville Predators. After his playing career ended, Housley transitioned into coaching. He served as an assistant coach for the Nashville Predators from 2003 to 2013 and was an assistant coach for the United States men's hockey team at the 2013 and 2015 IIHF World Championships. In May 2013, he was named head coach of the Buffalo Sabres, becoming the 17th head coach in team history. Despite leading the team to the highest point total in years in his second season as coach, Housley was ultimately fired in April 2019 after two seasons with the Sabres.
