Phil Housley Autographs
Phil Housley is an American former professional ice hockey player who was born on March 9, 1964, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He grew up in South St. Paul and played hockey at the high school level before getting drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. Housley played for eight different NHL teams over his 21-year career, including the Sabres, Winnipeg Jets, Washington Capitals, Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and finally, the finished his playing career with the Nashville Predators.
Housley had a distinguished career as a defenseman, known for his speed, agility, and offensive abilities. He was named to seven NHL All-Star games and received the USA Hockey Bob Johnson Award in 1996. His most productive season came in the 1992-93 season when he set a career-high in points with 97 while playing for the Winnipeg Jets. Housley was also a member of the United States men's hockey team for three Olympic Games: 1984, 2002, and 2006. At the 2002 games in Salt Lake City, he helped lead the US team to a silver medal, their best Olympic finish since 1980.
\nAfter his playing career ended, Housley transitioned into coaching. He served as an assistant coach for the Nashville Predators from 2003 to 2013 and was an assistant coach for the United States men's hockey team at the 2013 and 2015 IIHF World Championships. In May 2013, he was named head coach of the Buffalo Sabres, becoming the 17th head coach in team history. Despite leading the team to the highest point total in years in his second season as coach, Housley was ultimately fired in April 2019 after two seasons with the Sabres. Housley's career in hockey, both as a player and a coach, has been marked by dedication, perseverance, and a passion for the game.
