Phil Myre Autographs
Phil Myre is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who was born in Ste-Catherine, Quebec, Canada, on November 1st, 1948. He started playing minor baseball before deciding to pursue a career in hockey. Myre was drafted in the 2nd round, 15th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1966 NHL Amateur Draft.
Myre spent most of his early career playing for the Montreal Canadiens organization from 1968 to 1971. He got his big break in the NHL with the Atlanta Flames, where he played for five seasons as the team’s starting goalie. Myre is popularly known for his spectacular performances in the Flames' inaugural season in 1972-73, where he recorded six shutouts, a 2.50 goals-against average, and an impressive 3.3 win shares. He was instrumental in leading the Flames to their first-ever playoff berth, where he made 55 saves in a double-overtime game four victory against the New York Rangers, which remains one of the greatest goaltending performances in Flames history.
After playing for the Flames, Myre went on to play for several other teams, including the St. Louis Blues, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Buffalo Sabres. He retired from playing professional hockey in 1984, after playing a total of 368 games in the NHL, recording 28 shutouts, and 3.51 career goals against average. Following his retirement, Myre went into coaching, serving as head coach for the Fredericton Express and the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League. He was also an assistant coach with the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning from 2002 to 2009.
