Rick Lapointe Autographs
Rick Lapointe was born on April 12, 1955, in Victoria, British Columbia. He had an impressive hockey career that spanned over a decade. Lapointe initially played for the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League (WHL) before being selected in the second round, 27th overall, by St. Louis Blues in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft. He joined the Blues in 1974 and played 157 games for the team before being traded to the Vancouver Canucks in 1977.
Lapointe's time in Vancouver marked the best years of his career. He played six seasons for the Canucks, where he was known for his offensive prowess as well as his solid defensive play. Lapointe was a part of the 'Flying V' line, which included other notable players such as Ivan Boldirev, Chris Oddleifson, and Don Lever. In the 1980-81 season, Rick Lapointe set career highs in goals (22), assists (41), and points (63). He was also the Canucks' nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy, which is awarded to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.
Unfortunately, Lapointe's career was cut short due to injury. In 1983, he suffered a back injury that forced him to retire from professional hockey at the age of 28. Rick Lapointe's legacy lives on as he is still remembered as one of the most talented players to ever play for the Vancouver Canucks. He later worked as a Canucks' scout and was inducted into the Victoria Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
