Rick Martin, born in 1951 in Verdun, Quebec, Canada, was a professional ice hockey player known for his remarkable speed and shooting ability. He began his hockey career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Quebec Remparts in 1967, where he quickly gained a reputation as a budding star. In his final season with the Remparts, Martin set a then-QMJHL record with 72 goals in just 57 games, earning him the league's Most Valuable Player award. More about Rick Martin

Despite his success on the ice, Martin's life was cut tragically short. In 2011, at the age of 59, he suffered a fatal heart attack while driving. In his memory, the Sabres retired his jersey number 7, joining Perreault's number 11 and Robert's number 14 in the rafters of the KeyBank Center.
