Rod Seiling was born on November 16, 1944, in Elmira, Ontario, Canada. He began playing hockey at a young age and went on to play for the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League. Seiling played for the New York Rangers from 1964 to 1971, and during his time with the team, he became known for his strong defensive abilities. He was a member of the Rangers team that reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1972. After his time with the Rangers, Seiling played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the St. Louis Blues before retiring in 1978.

Throughout his career, Seiling was known for his solid defensive play and his ability to shut down opposing teams' top players. He was also one of the first players to use a curved stick, which allowed him to get more power and lift on his shots. After retiring from hockey, Seiling went on to work in sports broadcasting and served as the president of the Kitchener-Waterloo Rangers junior hockey team.
