Roland Melanson Autographs
Roland Melanson is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He was born on June 28, 1960, in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Melanson's professional career spanned from 1980 to 1994, and he played for teams such as the New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota North Stars, and the Montreal Canadiens.
Melanson's career peaked when he was a member of the New York Islanders from 1981 to 1986, where he helped lead the team to four consecutive Stanley Cup championships. He's often credited as one of the reasons for the Islanders' success during this period, and his excellent goaltending skills earned him the nickname "Rollie the Goalie." During the 1982 playoffs, he recorded four shutouts and posted an impressive 1.53 goals-against average over the Islanders' 19 playoff games.
After leaving the Islanders, Melanson continued to make an impact in the NHL, playing for several other teams and earning accolades along the way. In 1989, while playing for the Los Angeles Kings, he won the William M. Jennings Trophy, an honor awarded to the goaltender or goaltenders who allow the fewest goals during the NHL regular season. Melanson also made two All-Star Game appearances in 1984 and 1985. Today, he is regarded as one of the best Canadian goaltenders of his generation, with a career record of 291-187-66, a save percentage of .878 and a goals-against average of 3.64. Melanson's contributions to ice hockey have left a lasting impact on the sport, particularly during his time with the Islanders, where he helped to redefine what it meant to be a successful goaltender.
