Roman Turek Autographs
Roman Turek is a retired professional ice hockey player from the Czech Republic. He was born on May 21, 1970, in Strakonice, Czechoslovakia. Turek began his hockey career playing in the Czechoslovak Elite League for HC Ceske Budejovice at the age of 19. In 1992, he was drafted by the Minnesota North Stars in the 12th round of the NHL Entry Draft. Turek then played for several different teams in Europe before making his NHL debut in 1996 with the Dallas Stars.
Turek is best known for his time as a goalie for the Calgary Flames from 2001-2003. He had his most successful season in 2001-2002, where he posted a record of 33-22-13 and had a .908 save percentage. Turek helped lead the Flames to the Stanley Cup playoffs, where they made it to the second round before being eliminated by the Detroit Red Wings. He was awarded the Molson Cup as Calgary's Most Valuable Player during the 2001-2002 season.
After retiring from professional hockey in 2004, Turek returned to the Czech Republic where he began coaching youth hockey teams. He also served as a goaltending coach for the Czech Republic national ice hockey team. Turek was inducted into the Czech Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013 in recognition of his contributions to the sport. Today, he continues to be involved in the hockey world, coaching and mentoring young players to develop their skills on the ice.
