Ron Ellis Autographs
Ronald Joseph Ellis, better known as Ron Ellis, was born on January 8, 1945, in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada. He began playing ice hockey at a young age and eventually joined the Toronto Marlboros, a Junior A hockey team. In 1964, Ellis was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the NHL draft and began his professional hockey career.
Ellis spent his entire NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1964 to 1981. He was known for his scoring abilities and physicality, scoring 332 goals and 308 assists in 1,034 games played. Ellis was a two-time NHL All-Star and helped lead the Maple Leafs to the Stanley Cup Finals four times. In 1972, he was also a member of Team Canada during the historic Summit Series against the Soviet Union, scoring three goals and two assists in the series.
Off the ice, Ellis was known as a dedicated family man and philanthropist. After his retirement from hockey, he continued to be involved with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization and established the Ron Ellis Leadership Award, given each year to a young Canadian who exhibits leadership on and off the ice. Today, Ron Ellis is recognized as one of the greatest players in Toronto Maple Leafs history and an important figure in the development of Canadian hockey.
