Ron Stewart was born on December 25, 1932, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He played hockey as a left winger and spent his professional career playing in the National Hockey League (NHL). After playing junior hockey with the Regina Pats and joining the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, Stewart made his NHL debut in 1952. He was known for his gritty style of play, excellent defensive skills, and ability to kill penalties, which garnered him the nickname "Sarge."
Stewart's career spanned from 1952 to 1973, and he played for various NHL teams, including the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, and New York Rangers, before retiring with the Los Angeles Kings. He won two Stanley Cup championships with the Toronto Maple Leafs, in 1959 and 1962, and was named an NHL All-Star in 1960. Over his 20-year career, Stewart played in 809 games, scoring 276 goals and 319 assists, for a total of 595 points.
After retiring from hockey, Stewart became one of the NHL's first assistant coaches, working with teams such as the Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres, before eventually transitioning into a career as a television analyst. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, in 1984, Stewart was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2012, he was inducted into the Regina Pats Hall of Fame. Today, Ron Stewart is remembered as a talented and dedicated hockey player and a true icon of the game.
