Ryan Murray is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman who is currently playing for the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on September 27, 1993, in White City, Saskatchewan, Murray began playing hockey at a young age with the White City Wolverines. He later played for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he was named the team’s captain in 2011.
Murray’s hockey career began to soar when he was selected second overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the team in 2013 and played for them for seven seasons before being traded to the New Jersey Devils in 2020. In his time with the Blue Jackets, Murray was known for his strong defensive and offensive skills, making him a valuable asset to the team. He was also selected to represent team Canada in international competitions including the 2012 World Junior Championships where Canada won a bronze medal.
Despite facing numerous injuries throughout his career, Ryan Murray continues to be a formidable player on the ice. He has established himself as a reliable and skilled defenseman with a career-high of 29 points during the 2016-2017 season.
