Scott Mellanby Autographs
Scott Mellanby is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He was born on June 11, 1966, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He started his hockey career in the junior leagues of Quebec, where he played for the Verdun Juniors until 1986. He was then drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft.
Mellanby played for the Philadelphia Flyers for six seasons before he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 1991. He played for the Oilers for two seasons before he was traded once again, this time to the Florida Panthers, where he made a significant impact. In the inaugural season of the Panthers in 1993-1994, Mellanby led the team in scoring with 70 points and became the first player in NHL history to score a "rat trick," as he killed a rat in the locker room with his stick before the game and then proceeded to score two goals during it. Mellanby played for the Panthers for seven seasons and was named captain in 1997. He ended his 21-year NHL career in 2007 with the Atlanta Thrashers, where he played for two seasons before retiring.
Throughout his hockey career, Mellanby was known for his physical and tough style of play and his ability to score goals, earning the nickname "Melly." He played in 1431 regular season games, scoring 364 goals and 476 assists for a total of 840 points. He also played in 143 playoff games, scoring 31 goals and 41 assists. He was a two-time NHL All-Star and won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, awarded to the player who exemplifies leadership on and off the ice, in 2002. He is currently working as a vice president of hockey operations for the NHL's St. Louis Blues.
