Seth Jones is a professional ice hockey defenseman who currently plays for the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on October 3, 1994, in Arlington, Texas, Jones is the son of former NBA player Popeye Jones. Despite growing up in Texas, he developed a love for hockey at a young age, and his family relocated to Colorado to support his passion for the sport.
Jones began his hockey career with the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP) during the 2010-11 season, where he played for two seasons before joining the Western Hockey League (WHL) team, Portland Winterhawks. He quickly established himself as one of the most promising young defensive talents in the league and helped his team to a WHL Championship in 2013. His performance also saw him being drafted fourth overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2013 NHL entry draft.
Over the years, Jones has cemented his reputation as one of the NHL's top defenseman, displaying impressive skating ability, vision, and a solid defensive game with a physical edge. In addition to his time with the Predators, where he was named an NHL All-Star in 2017, Jones has also played for Team USA in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, 2018 Winter Olympics, and several other international tournaments. In 2019, he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets and has continued to excel as one of the team's top players. Off the ice, Jones is known for his philanthropic work and has actively supported various charitable causes throughout his career.
