Sheldon Kennedy Autographs
Sheldon Kennedy was born on June 15, 1969, in Brandon, Manitoba, and grew up playing hockey in his hometown. He started his hockey career by playing in the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 1984 to 1988. While playing for the Swift Current Broncos in the WHL, he achieved great success and was a huge fan favorite. Kennedy was selected 80th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft.
Kennedy made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings during the 1988-89 season but spent most of his time in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the Adirondack Red Wings. After two seasons with the Red Wings, he was traded to the Calgary Flames in 1991. Kennedy played for six years with the Calgary Flames where he served as an alternate captain and played a significant role in the team's success, including the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals.
Kennedy faced a lot of adversity throughout his career, especially after he publicly revealed that he was sexually abused by his junior hockey coach, Graham James when he played for the Swift Current Broncos. Kennedy retired from professional hockey in 1997 but remains an active advocate for child sexual abuse prevention and is a certified trainer for the Respect in Sport online training program. Kennedy's bravery and advocacy have made a significant impact in hockey and beyond, and he continues to inspire others to speak up and take action against abuse.
