Sheldon Kennedy was born on June 15, 1969, in Brandon, Manitoba, and grew up playing hockey in his hometown. He started his hockey career by playing in the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 1984 to 1988. While playing for the Swift Current Broncos in the WHL, he achieved great success and was a huge fan favorite. Kennedy was selected 80th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. Kennedy retired from professional hockey in 1997 but remains an active advocate for child sexual abuse prevention and is a certified trainer for the Respect in Sport online training program. Kennedy's bravery and advocacy have made a significant impact in hockey and beyond, and he continues to inspire others to speak up and take action against abuse.
