Stephane Matteau Autographs
Stephane Matteau is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player born on September 16, 1969, in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. Matteau started his junior ice hockey career in Drummondville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) before he was drafted 25th overall pick in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames. In his NHL career, he played with various teams, including the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, San Jose Sharks, and the St. Louis Blues.
Matteau is widely remembered for his memorable game-winning goal in double overtime in the seventh game of the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals for the New York Rangers. Matteau's goal is often referred to as "Matteau, Matteau, Matteau!" as it was called thrice by Rangers play-by-play broadcaster Sam Rosen. The goal eliminated the Rangers' arch-rivals, the New Jersey Devils, and advanced the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they would eventually win their first Stanley Cup in 54 years.
Matteau's hard work, toughness, and grit have earned him a place in the hearts of many Rangers fans. Throughout Matteau's NHL career that spanned over 13 years, he had an accumulated total of 144 goals, 172 assists, and 316 points in 848 games. Although he had several noteworthy accomplishments throughout his career, he continues to be remembered for his iconic game-winning goal, which cemented his legacy in the history of the New York Rangers.
