Stephane Richer is a former professional ice hockey player who was born on June 7, 1966, in Ripon, Quebec, Canada. He started his ice hockey career with Junior A hockey in 1982 and then played for Hull Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for two seasons. Richer was drafted 29th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut on October 6, 1984, against the Buffalo Sabres. Richer played for the Montreal Canadiens from 1984 until 1991, winning the Stanley Cup twice in 1986 and 1993. He made a significant contribution in the 1993 playoffs, scoring 10 goals and nine assists in 20 games. After spending seven seasons with the Canadiens, Richer was traded to New Jersey Devils in March 1991. He played for the Devils until 1996, winning the Stanley Cup in 1995. During his time with the Devils, Richer won many individual accolades, including the Bill Masterton Trophy and Honourable Mention All-Star.
