Steve Webb Autographs

Steve Webb was born on April 14, 1976, in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. His career in professional hockey began in 1994 when he was drafted to play with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Despite registering low scoring numbers, it was his grit, toughness, and physical play that caught the attention of the New York Islanders. In 1994, the Islanders drafted him in the 2nd round, 82nd overall, and he graduated from the OHL in 1996.
Toward the end of the 1999-2000 NHL season, Steve Webb got his NHL call-up from the Islanders and he made an immediate impact playing in a fourth-line role. His physical play and willingness to stand up for his teammates made him a fan favorite at the Nassau Coliseum. He never scored more than four goals or eight points in a single season, but his transition from the AHL to the NHL was due to his physicality as a grinder. Steve continued to play for the Islanders for another four seasons, and he was eventually traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003-04 season. He returned to a club he played 12 games for during the 1997-98 season.
After a short stint with the Penguins, Steve Webb played his final season in the NHL for the Tampa Bay Lightning before he retired in 2004-05. While he didn’t have a brilliant career when we look at point totals, Steve’s toughness, grit, and physicality earned him a lot of respect in the NHL. He will always be remembered as an enforcer and an excellent teammate who stood up for his fellow players. His game was based on sacrifice and being a warrior every time he was on the ice, and those characteristics earned him a loyal following among Islanders fans.
