Thatcher Demko Autographs
Thatcher Demko is an American ice hockey goaltender who plays in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Vancouver Canucks. Born in San Diego, California, in December 1995, Demko grew up in a family of athletes - his mother, father, and older sister all played sports. He first started playing ice hockey at the age of four, and by the time he was a teenager, he was already a standout player.
Demko first gained national attention in 2014 when he was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the second round (36th overall) of the NHL entry draft. He played college hockey for Boston College for three seasons, during which time he became one of the top goaltenders in the nation. In his junior year, he led the Eagles to the NCAA National Championship game, where they fell to the University of Denver. Demko left Boston College after his junior year and signed with the Canucks, where he has been since the start of the 2016-17 season.
Since joining the Canucks, Demko has established himself as one of the most promising young goaltenders in the NHL. In the 2019-20 season, he appeared in 25 games and posted a 13-10-2 record with a 3.06 goals against average (GAA) and a .905 save percentage. He made his Stanley Cup Playoff debut in the summer of 2020 when he replaced veteran goaltender Jacob Markstrom in the second round of the playoffs against the Vegas Golden Knights. In game five of that series, Demko made history by becoming just the third goaltender in NHL history to record back-to-back shutouts in his first two playoff appearances. Although the Canucks ultimately fell to the Golden Knights in seven games, Demko's performance in that series cemented his status as a rising star in the league.
