Thomas Vanek is an Austrian professional ice hockey player who was born on January 19, 1984. Vanek started playing hockey at a young age and later moved to North America to pursue his hockey career. The forward was drafted in the first round, fifth overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
